There Are No Benefits to Taking Too Much Vitamin C

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020, stores and pharmacies quickly ran out of vitamin C. People were panic-purchasing the popular vitamin in an attempt to improve their immune systems during a mass health crisis. However, there is such a thing as taking too much vitamin C. It’s important that people understand this because taking too much vitamin C could actually be bad for your body and health.

Nutritionists say that you don’t often need more than 90mg of vitamin C per day. You can easily get this amount from consuming vitamin C-rich foods. For example, you can throw an orange in a modern juicer and get your daily amount of vitamin C in just one drink. There are many foods out there, besides citrus fruits, that have vitamin C, so it wouldn’t be difficult to include these in your diet, wherever you are.

Of course, there are people who do need additional vitamin C, like people who struggle to absorb iron naturally. However, if you are taking a vitamin C supplement, you should never exceed 2,000mg per day.

Taking too much vitamin C can result in health concerns like nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, and a bloated abdomen. However, these reactions are quite rare as when you take too much vitamin C, your body gets rid of it naturally through urination. Nevertheless, excessive amounts can cause the aforementioned issues.

If you’re looking for ways to improve your wellness, there are plenty of other things you can do besides increasing the amount of vitamin C you consume.
