Can’t wait to invite your friends over and impress them with your backyard’s new look? Well, you’re not alone! According to PR Newswire, over 90% of backyard owners make better use of it since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, according to the International Casual Furnishings Association (ICFA) report, Americans do more of the following in their outdoor spaces:

  • relaxing
  • grilling
  • gardening
  • dining

About 58% of the surveyed were planning on purchasing a new piece of furniture to enable these activities, making backyard transformations among the most popular home improvements for 2021.

Plus, 78% of yard owners already did some upgrades to their outdoor space during the pandemic. In 2021, people will be boosting their well-being through these popular trends for the summer.

1. Multifunctional Furniture

Millennials like multi-functional furniture, and since they’ll be the biggest renovators for 2021, yard spaces will get filled with furniture that can be used for relaxing and socializing. Tropical resort-like lounges, chairs, and dining tables will be mainly in vogue.

2. Edible Gardens

At the beginning of the pandemic, the food shortage panic inspired people to set up a home garden planted with vegetables and fruits. Experts predict that this gardening trend will continue to blossom in the years to come.

3. Cooking and Dining Items

From full-sized kitchens to slow cookers, pizza ovens, and others, in 2021, people are not just grilling but are also transferring as much of their cooking as possible outdoors. Millennials are planning to make modern dining spaces in their backyards featuring bars, sofas, and decorations.

4. Privacy Huts

The little “granny pods,” cabins, sheds, dens, and other privacy-offering places where guests can spend the night are a popular way to ensure both privacy and infection-proof visits.

5. Multi-Seasonal Adaptation of the Outdoors

Heating systems, rugs, tents, and throw blankets, and any other item to extend the outdoor season as long as possible.
