Striving for a Healthier Home? Get a Houseplant!

People have an inherent need to be in contact with nature. Yet, nowadays, the global pandemic stays in the way of fulfilling just that.

Luckily, we can at least acquire a little piece of the outdoors in our own homes — namely, a houseplant.

Indeed, many understood that buying exercising equipment, an organic mattress, and similar, isn’t enough to make your indoor life healthier — hence the houseplant craze!

Plants can not only make your place look great but also feel great due to the following factors:

Boost Indoor Air Quality

Did you know that indoor air is 30 times more toxic than the air we have outdoors? Benzene, carbon monoxide, and tobacco smoke are just a speck of the many indoor air pollutants that increase the risk of pneumonia and ischemic heart attack, among others.

Well, houseplants not only replenish the used oxygen, but they also neutralize most of the air pollutants. Some plants are better at this than others, such as:

  • Snake Plant
  • Chinese Evergreen Plant
  • Spider Plant
  • Peace Lily
  • Rubber Plant (Ficus Robusta)

Boost Home Office Productivity

Studies confirm that a home office desk is not complete without a little greenery. According to recent US and UK studies, you’ll be boosting your productivity by no less than 15% and reducing sick days by another 10% if you add a plant to your home office décor.

Cheer You Up

Research shows that merely looking at the green plants can do wonders for your mood and overall mental well-being.

Lower Stress Levels

Plants fortify our bond with nature — hence why like gardening, having a houseplant soothes us, reduces stress levels, and evokes a sense of serenity and relaxation.

Reduce Noise Levels

With their leaves, stems, and branches, plants help absorb sounds, believe it or not. And the meatier they are, the better.

In short, houseplants are just what the doctor ordered; especially during these pandemic-infested times. By introducing a small houseplant in your life, you enrich not only your house’s interior but also your well-being; both physically and mentally.
