New Study Links Plant-Based Diets and Heart Benefits

If you haven’t been living under a rock lately, you’ve probably noticed the growing popularity of plant-based diets around the globe.

Namely, a lot of people go vegan for moral reasons, whereas others do so to avoid foods that cause them discomfort. However, there’s yet another lesser-known reason why people choose a vegan diet — heart health.

In fact, a recent study has shown that people living on a plant-centered diet — it doesn’t have to be entirely plant-based, mind you — had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. To be more precise, the study followed 4,700 participants over the span of 30 years and uncovered that people with a plant-centered diet had better heart health and lower bad cholesterol levels.

Yet, what does a plant-centered diet entail?

Well, it doesn’t have to be 100% vegan; it can include fish and low-fat dairy. Though the main focus of this diet would be on eating whole grains, nuts and seeds, fruits, and vegetables.

On the other hand, things that aren’t allowed in this diet are fatty meats, sweets, sugary drinks, and processed meats. Essentially, the trick is to eat low amounts of fat, as well as meals that are mainly made up of plant-based foods.

Moreover, the idea that a low-fat diet is good for your heart is not a new one. Still, due to the rising popularity of keto diets in recent years, many have taken to eating fatty meat meals over fruits, nuts and seeds, vegetables, whole grains, and other low-fat foods.

So, if you’re looking to improve your heart health, all you need to do is look up some online recipes and prepare some delicious veggies. And if you’re strapped for time, worry not, as you can always turn to healthy meal delivery services to do all of the heavy legwork for you.

Even popping a few fruits into your favorite juicer could make a world of difference for your heart health. After all, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, right?
