Do you often feel like you’re drinking water straight out of a swimming pool? If that’s the case, your water might not be as clean as it should be.
Fortunately for you, there’s a new sheriff in town — the LARQ water bottle! Not only does it help save the environment (say goodbye to plastic bottles!), but its ultramodern design will make you feel like a certified Jedi knight.
That is why we went on to make a detailed LARQ Bottle review and inspect all of the different features of this niche product to see whether it lives up to its spotless reputation.
If you want to know more, just keep on reading!
From a successful Kickstarter campaign to getting funded on Shark Tank — a show where aspiring entrepreneurs get to pitch their business ideas to investors — LARQ has come a long way since its debut in 2018. Not only that, but the California-based company is the first ever brand to make self-cleaning (and purification) water bottles!
One of the founders and the CEO of LARQ, Justin Wang, created this eco-friendly product to provide everyone with clean, drinkable water. After all, freshwater makes up less than 3% of the global water supply, hence the roaring success of this neat little gadget.
LARQ Bottle Review: Who’s It For?
The LARQ Bottle is a brilliant way of ensuring you always drink clean water. It uses BPA-free stainless steel, so you won’t have to worry about it leaking harmless chemicals into your water, as is the case with most plastic bottles. Not to mention that plastic can take as many as 1,000 years to degrade completely.
Moreover, the LARQ portable movement water bottle is perfect for all those constantly on the go, particularly in areas where you don’t trust the local water supply (developing countries, remote regions, etc.). All thanks to its revolutionary self-cleaning UV light; germs, beware!
In addition to that, the bottle has a slick, modern design and is ultra-lightweight. Plus, it fits the hand perfectly, unlike those bulky old water bottles.
There are four available designs both for home and on-the-go use: the LARQ Bottle PureVis, LARQ Bottle Movement PureVis, LARQ Bottle Filtered, and LARQ Pitcher PureVis. We’ll get to the bottom of each one in the reviews below.
LARQ Bottle PureVis Review
LARQ Bottle PureVis is a lightweight, reusable water bottle that uses UV-C light technology to clean and purify the water inside, including the container. It has double food-grade stainless steel walls that trap both hot and cold temperatures from escaping and a small, rechargeable lithium-polymer battery with a USB port.
You can expect water to stay hot for approximately 12 hours and cold for twice as long. This is the insulated version — you can check the non-insulated model (LARQ Movement Bottle) in the review below. Additionally, you should charge the battery about once a month, depending on the setting.
As for the design, there are two sizes: a 500ml and a 740ml bottle, weighing 380g and 500g, respectively. Apart from being lightweight, they’re also fairly small, with a diameter of just 6.8cm and 7.6cm and a height of 24.3cm and 26.4cm, respectively.
And if that wasn’t enough, they come in 8 different color schemes: Red, Eucalyptus Green, Electro Blue, Monaco Blue, Obsidian Black, Granite White, Seaside Mint, and Himalayan Pink.
How Does the LARQ Bottle Work?
This revolutionary water bottle uses hospital-grade disinfecting technology to prevent germs from festering inside. Namely, UV-C light, which damages the nucleic acids in the DNA of any unwanted guests. A simple yet effective way of killing foul-smelling bacteria.
As a result, you won’t ever have to worry about your water container getting moldy or reeking of death after multiple uses. However, note that you still need to clean the mouth area to remove the build-up of oils, food residue, lip balms, etc., every once in a while.
Note that the bottle doesn’t contain a filter (like the Filtered version), so it won’t remove heavy metals and fluoride.
How to Use the LARQ Self-Cleaning Water Bottle
To use the LARQ Bottle, simply fill it with water, press the button on top, and wait 60 seconds for the UV-C light to do its thing. After 60 seconds have passed, it’ll shut off automatically, leaving you with fresh, clean water.
Here’s a more in-depth guide on all its features:
- First, make sure the battery is charged.
- Fill the bottle with clear water (residue can block UV light).
- Screw the cap back into place.
- Press once to activate the cleaning process.
- Press twice to turn on the Adventure mode (3-minute cleaning cycle).
- Hold for 5 seconds to turn the self-cleaning mode off (aka Travel Lock mode).
- While in cleaning action, you can press again and cancel it.
Also, most LARQ self-cleaning water Bottle reviews recommend giving the bottle a gentle shake to help the light reach every last spot. And it goes without saying that you shouldn’t point the light directly into your eyes or skin.
The Adventure mode, in particular, is great for people who like traveling to remote regions or are visiting developing countries where you’re not sure about the safety of the water. It’s twice as strong and last for 3 minutes instead the regular one.
Note that the one-minute cycle is equivalent to boiling water for 20 minutes.
As previously mentioned in our LARQ water Bottle review, the container is self-cleaning. That said, you still have to clean the insides every now and then (about once a month). Simply wash it with soap and warm water, or place it in your dishwasher. Just remember to remove the cap. Otherwise, you risk damaging the battery.
If you’re using it for anything other than water, say coffee, wash it after each use as you would your favorite Moka Pot. However, we advise against using your LARQ bottle for sugary, staining beverages.
Last but not least, never put your LARQ bottle inside a freezer or microwave.
LARQ Bottle Movement PureVis Review
The LARQ Bottle Movement is the lighter version of the LARQ Bottle at the price of not being isolated as its “older brother” (it only has one stainless steel wall). This allows for more carrying capacity. Namely, 950ml, as well as a smaller 710ml capacity model.
When making a LARQ Bottle size comparison, you’ll notice this is almost twice as large as the original. Additionally, the LARQ Movement model has a colorful detachable silicone grip on the bottom half to protect it from any accidental bumps and dents, making it perfect for hikers!
There’s also an added rim that makes drinking more comfortable.
Apart from that, the basic principles are the same. It also uses UV light and has the Normal and Adventure modes for you to play with.
LARQ Bottle Filtered Review
Although LARQ Bottle PureVis will help you eliminate stinky water and harmful microbes, it’s not a miracle worker. For instance, it won’t turn water into wine or undrinkable water into its drinkable counterpart. For that, you need LARQ’s Filtered Bottle.
This neat gadget will make sure your water is void of any physical impurities like dirt and sediment. Not to mention heavy metals and other harmful contaminants.
It uses the so-called Nano Zero filter technology that comes in two layers — one that traps organic contaminants and chlorine and another one that filters heavy metals. And according to most LARQ water Bottle reviews, it’s ideal for camping or traveling through the backcountry!
With it, you don’t have to pack twenty gallons of water for your trip. Simply scoop up some fresh river or spring water and let the filter do the rest! Some even say that the filter makes the water taste better.
As for the design, it comes in two sizes — 500ml and 740ml — and two color schemes: Obsidian Black and Granite White.
Note that the filter is long-lasting but still has to be replaced after filtering about 40 gallons of water. Best of all, both the Filtered and PureVis bottles have interchangeable caps. Meaning they can be swapped to get the cleanest possible water money can buy.
Speaking of the best of both worlds…
LARQ Pitcher PureVis Review
More than one LARQ Bottle PureVis review praises the multi-practic nature of this futuristic gizmo. For one, it comes with both a Nano Zero filter and a PureVis UV light cap. So not only does this wombo-combo filter impurities (including sediment from tap water), but it also zaps any bio-contaminants found inside.
Each time you fill the pitcher, the UV light turns on automatically and does its magic, leaving you with 8 cups of blissfully pure water in a matter of minutes. In addition, the pitcher enters a self-cleaning cycle every six hours.
To our delight, it also comes in two lovely color schemes: Monaco Blue and Pure White.
According to one online LARQ self-cleaning water Bottle review, you need a smartphone to track the filtration status on the LARQ App, which shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Terms of Sale
For orders over $80, you get free US shipping on all LARQ water purifiers. Expedited shipping is also available for some regions (check their website for more info).
As for delivery times, it usually takes around 5–7 business days for your LARQ bottle to reach you if you’re in the US, the UK, the European Union, or Canada. As for the rest of the world, you need to wait approximately 7–14 business days.
Return and Exchange Policy
LARQ offers a generous 30-day return policy for any unused products. Note that return shipping fees for the US and Canada are paid for and not included in the LARQ water bottle price.
Additionally, unused LARQ bottles can be exchanged for a different model within 90 days, as long as the product is undamaged and you have the original receipt.
All LARQ products have a one-year limited warranty, which ensures that any damaged parts or materials will be fixed or replaced. The warranty excludes any problems brought on by ordinary wear and tear, abuse, loss, or theft.
The original LARQ bottle price (LARQ Bottle PureVis) is $110.00 for the 500ml bottle and $130 for the 740ml one. The Movement model is more affordable at $100 for the 710ml bottle and $110 for the 950ml option.
Since the Filtered bottle lacks PureVis technology, it’s the most affordable option, costing just $60 for the 500ml bottle and $70 for the 740ml. Remember, you can swap the caps if you already have a PureVis bottle!
Lastly, we have the Pitcher model, which is the most expensive one ($170), considering that it contains both a Nano Zero filter and a PureVis cap.
For any questions relating to their products, LARQ offers a customer support email at [email protected]. Though we agree with most other LARQ Bottle reviews that this is the bare minimum. We’d like to see some additional support channels, such as live chat, in the future.
That said, the response times are satisfactory, and there have been no major complaints. Plus, we have to praise the brand for its exhaustive supply of manuals and FAQs for each product on its website.
LARQ Bottle Reviews and Ratings
With an excellent star rating of 4.5 of 5 on Amazon, it’s clear that this revolutionary water bottle has touched the hearts and minds of many across the globe.
This state-of-the-art product comes with only one Achilles heel — its PureVis UV cap. Namely, once the cap is damaged and stops working, it becomes a conventional water bottle. In other words, it won’t protect you from harmful contaminants.
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that most negative reviews of the LARQ water bottle are from buyers that dropped their bottles enough times for them to stop working properly. Fortunately, the brand offers silicone and travel sleeves for each of its on-the-go products on its website.
We were thoroughly impressed with the LARQ water bottle. It’s thoughtfully designed, well-made, and does a superb job of keeping the water clean and tasty.
And despite the steep price, the bottle will pay for itself, especially if you go camping or travel a lot. So, if you’re looking for a high-quality self-cleaning water bottle, look no further than LARQ — the industry pioneer!
Does the LARQ Bottle actually work?
Yes! The LARQ Bottle has been tried and tested by independent third-party labs to ensure it lives up to its claims. Indeed, the LARQ Bottle reduced the number of bacteria in the water by 99.9999%.
Note that the effectiveness also depends on how you use the bottle. For instance, if you don’t shake the bottle during the cleaning cycle, the UV light will not be able to reach all the interior surfaces of the bottle.
Where to buy the LARQ water bottle?
Besides their official LARQ website, you can purchase all the LARQ products from online-buying platforms like Amazon, BestBuy, Bloomingdale’s, etc. Some are available for purchase through the LARQ smartphone app. So, don’t worry, you won’t have difficulties finding this water bottle.
Is LARQ worth the money?
Absolutely! LARQ Bottle is not only a great way to ensure you’re drinking clean water, but it’s also really convenient. The built-in UV light means you can purify your water anywhere, anytime.
Not to mention that you’ll save up on disposable water bottles, dishwashing, and cleaning agents. Plus, you won’t have to worry about your water bottle getting smelly and dirty.
And as we show in our LARQ Bottle review, this water bottle is definitely worth the investment if you’re looking for a simple way to quit disposable plastic and drink clean water.
