The stay-at-home “pandemic orders” are now history (we hope). Yet, what remains are the unfortunate “pandemic pounds” we amassed during the lockdown.
This is why Andrew Roberts, an online fitness instructor, embarked on a mission to better understand and motivate his clients.
Namely, Roberts gained 55lbs in just six months, increasing his body fat from a lowly 10% to a whopping 27%, which qualifies him as medically obese.
To do this, he increased his daily caloric intake (2,000cal) twofold. But, instead of eating his usual whole food vegan meals, he ate exclusively vegan junk food. Just for reference, the famous ex-wrestler Dwayne the Rock Johnson eats 5,000 calories per day!
One thing that Roberts noticed immediately was that the lack of proper diet and exercise impacted not just his physical but also his mental health, making him negative all the time.
In addition to that, the vegan fitness trainer also experienced frequent chest pain, poor sleep, lethargy, fatigue, and a lack of motivation.
However, Andrew is not the only fitness professional going through this unhealthy challenge.
Similar feats were recorded on the 2016 reality show “Fit to Fat to Fit,” featuring the same scenario — personal trainers gaining weight to motivate their clients to beat the bulge together.
Nevertheless, what makes Roberts unique is his adherence to veganism. This experiment proved that junk food stays junk be it vegan or not.
So, if you want to go vegan but don’t cook yourself, you’re better off ordering vegan meal plans, such as Green Chef or similar, than relying on supermarket junk food.
Right now, Roberts is entering the weight loss phase, which he believes will last another half a year. He hopes to inspire many to follow a whole food diet, and judging by his 5,000 plus Instagram followers — he’s already succeeding!
